Terms Explained
“What does that mean?”
If you're new to this work, the terminology can be confusing. Here's a quick guide to what each term means — and which kind of session might be right for you.
Animal Communication
The broader practice of telepathically connecting with and listening to an animal to understand their thoughts, feelings, and experience, also called pet communication. Practitioners are known as animal communicators or pet communicators.
Animal Telepathy
Receiving what an animal is communicating through one or more intuitive senses, without needing to be physically present.
Certified
Trained and credentialed under Penelope Smith in animal communication — not an official license, just a marker of real training and practice. Read more in About Lesley.
The Clair Senses
The intuitive senses (clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, and claircognizance) used to receive what an animal is communicating — through images, sounds, feelings, or simply knowing.
Clairvoyant Psychic Reading
A reading focused on you rather than your animal, in which impressions arrive as images, symbols, and a sense of knowing about your path, your energy, and the questions you're carrying. Explore clairvoyant psychic readings.
Interspecies Communication
A broader term coined by Penelope Smith to describe telepathic communication across all species — animals, plants, and beyond.
Nature Spirits
The living presence within trees, gardens, and land — quieter than an animal's, but still there to be felt and communicated with. Explore nature spirits.
Pet Loss & Psychic Mediumship
Support for grieving the loss of an animal companion, including communicating with them after they've passed to share messages, comfort, and healing. Learn more about pet loss mediumship sessions.
Pet Psychic Reading
A session focused on tuning into your animal's current feelings and what they're trying to tell you, often through telepathy and the clair senses. Sometimes called a dog psychic or cat psychic reading, depending on the animal. Learn more about pet psychic readings.
